Promoting Literacy – One Sensational Story at a Time!

Mea culpa. I have been absent of late. Both jobs (work and authoring) are bounding down the hill collecting snow and growing faster than a yeti on a steady diet of peanut butter cups and slurpees. I’ve so far been overtaken a couple of times, but manage to keep sliding down the hill just barely ahead of it, but it is a slippery slope indeed, so I decided to grab a rope to pull myself up a nice tall pine tree out of the path of the snowball of woolly mammoth proportions to share some news.

I’ve mentioned in these pages an awesome group of local writers (www.treehousewriters.wordpress.com). We live in a treehouse, dine on only the finest Otter Pops (Alexander the Grape is my favorite), and devote all of our passion to storytelling. It’s an honor to hang out on the tire swing and learn from them.

After the Clockwork Alchemy Convention last year (my first time sitting behind one of their tables as an author … squeee!), we got together for tea at Linde Lane Tearoom in Dixon (you simply MUST go there! Homemade everything, nicest staff imaginable, and nibbles to die for, but I digress) to talk about the next convention. Like a bolt out of the blue, it hit…why not put together an anthology to release at the next one, and devote all of the proceeds to a literacy charity…

In addition to writing short stories for the project, I’ve been lucky enough to be on the editing team (talk about learning a LOT) doing continuity edits, formatting, and layout (I learned how to do Drop Caps! – Those big letters at the beginning of the first paragraph of a book. Yay me!) and last night somewhere near midnight, I finished the final formatting and sent it off to our project manager, the amazing BJ Sikes (raise the roof, folks, she’s one hell of a cat herder…and believe me, all authors are at least part cat, though some of us are dats…or cogs…whichever).

And so, (Trumpets Sound) I am here to announce (Drums Roll):

Myth! Mystery! Intrigue! Dirigibles!

One day only! Each story in a single hour, and each hour a whirlwind of steam, legends, spycraft, and the occasional forest demon dropping in for good measure.

Twelve Hours Later: 24 Tales of Myth and Mystery will thrill you with round the clock action and adventure, weaving a world of lore into a whole new steampunk tapestry.

Better Yet! All proceeds from the sale of the anthology go to benefit the San Jose Library System, so as you indulge your literary senses, you’re also helping to promote literacy, one sensational story at a time!

Come join us Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-25, 2015, at the Clockwork Alchemy Steampunk Convention in the San Jose Double Tree for the release of this absolutely awesome anthology!

And here are a few teasers for you…

The Clock is Ticking…

A devoted nursemaid braves mythical Japanese spirits to save a little girl’s life, only to bring down the wrath of a demon on the child’s father.

Two daredevil American adventurers encounter a Chinese demon who styles himself as the Lord of Death and race against time to stop his murderous plan to eliminate London’s top industrialists.

A set maker’s apprentice delves the depths beneath Paris’ famed Opera House and unwittingly discovers the diva’s secret lover, a man all believe to be only a legend.

An Academy romance turns deadly when two young cadets encounter clockwork horrors in Edinburgh’s Underground City.

A lady archaeologist turned adventurer finds herself saddled with an unlikely partner and must use all her cunning and guile to save both Britain and herself.

Make a wish. Count to three. Is the Polychrome Wishing Jar everything it’s supposed to be?

24 Stories. 24 Hours of steampunk action and gripping adventure steeped in myth, legend, and lore. Race the clock with our stalwart heroes and heroines.

Find out what happens Twelve Hours Later!
